VN methamphetamine smuggler arrested

(Svay Rieng) : Svay Rieng anti-drugs police are on the hunt for accomplices following the arrest of a Vietnamese woman after she was found with around 2kg of methamphetamine as she crossed the border into Vietnam.

A further 2kg was found in her rented room in the province’s Samrong commune, near the border after information was received from Vietnamese authorities.

Svay Rieng provincial police anti-drugs office chief, Kan Ken on Thursday said the detained woman had been identified as Nguyen Thanh Ngoc, 28. She was arrested trying to get the drugs into Vietnam from Cambodia through the Samrong border checkpoint on February 17.

During questioning, the woman told Vietnamese police about the further 2kg of drugs hidden in the room in Samrong commune’s Chek village.

The Vietnamese authorities passed the information on to their Cambodian counterparts who searched the address.

“Our authorities found and confiscated the drugs in accordance with an order from Svay Rieng provincial court,” Ken said.

Vietnamese authorities were in charge of the case, Ken added, while it would be handled by the consuls of the two countries or through other legislative procedures.
