South Korea’s Moon Jae-in to visit Kingdom
(Phnom Penh) : South Korean President Moon Jae-in will pay a state visit to Cambodia from March 14-16 at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced on Monday.
An audience with the King and a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen are among Moon’s agenda during his visit, the ministry said in a press release.
The release said Moon and Hun Sen will “discuss ways to further enhance bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields, and also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern and interest”.
Following their meeting, the two leaders will witness the signing of a number of agreements and make a joint press announcement, it read.
Moon and Hun Sen, the release further said, are expected to preside over the Cambodia-Republic of Korea Business Forum.
The joint event was planned to coincide with Moon’s visit. Its planning was chaired by the presidents of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) – Kith Meng – and the Korea International Trade Association – Tiger Min-sok Chu, said a post on CCC’s Facebook page.
The event aims to encourage greater investment, trade and economic exchange between the two countries.
“His Excellency Moon Jae-in’s first visit to Cambodia will be an important milestone in Cambodia-Republic of Korea bilateral relations and will significantly strengthen friendship and increase the scope and depth of the cooperation between the two countries,” the release read.
Meas Nee, a political analyst, welcomed the visit, saying that it is a good sign for both countries.
“The visit will reflect strengthened bilateral cooperation and relationship between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea,” Nee said.
