King and Queen Mother fly to Beijing for check-up

Phnom Penh: King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk yesterday flew to Beijing for a routine medical check-up.

According to a post on his Facebook page yesterday, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that he, along with Senate president Say Chhum, National Assembly president Heng Samrin, Interior Minister Sar Kheng and other senior government officials saw off the King and Queen Mother at Phnom Penh International Airport in the morning.

“May His Majesty have power, wisdom, goodness, good health and long life and be a symbol to all the people living in peace forever,” Mr Hun Sen said.

Mr Chhum will be acting head of state in the absence of the King.

Oum Daravuth, advisor to the Queen Mother, said that King Sihamoni and the Queen Mother go overseas for routine medical check-ups twice a year.

“The King and Queen Mother have regular medical check-ups according to their doctor’s schedule in Beijing,” Mr Daravuth said. “The King and Queen Mother are in very good health.”

He added that the King and Queen Mother will return before the Khmer New Year next month.
